dock street school: bird watchers

Bird Watchers is comprised of three mural-sized works that are permanently installed at the Dock Street School in DUMBO, Brooklyn. Each of the constituent pieces has an individual title. These subtitles refer to the source documents from which the micrographic text of each work was copied. At the entrance to the school, Capital Plan shows a family of quail and is composed out of text from the NYC School Construction Authority’s capital plan, which included the construction of the Dock Street School. Continuing up the stairs, the work entitled Environmental Plan shows an Eagle, which appears to by diving down towards the lobby. Environmental Plan is composed out of text from the building developer’s environmental impact report. Continuing into the school, the final work is situated between the school’s library and its cafeteria. This work, which shows a male and female pheasant, is composed out of text from a USDA report concerning school nutrition.

This piece is part of the Public Art for Public Schools program -- and I was supported while making this work by residencies at The MacDowell Colony and the Galveston Artist Residency. Many thanks to all involved!
